Teeth Marks on Glass

M.H. John

I wrote this poem about restraint, emotional pressure, and the exhaustion of trying to appear composed while carrying things internally. While writing it, I thought about how some people become so practiced at containing themselves that even their breaking points happen in silence. I wanted the imagery in this poem to feel physical and delicate at the same time, like evidence left behind from something that almost shattered.
